Architectural style: Gothic
The word “Gothic” comes from the Italian gotico – an unusual, barbaric – (Goten – barbarians; this style has nothing to do with the historical Goths), and was first used as a brane. For the first time, the concept in the modern sense was applied by Giorgio Vasari in order to separate the Renaissance from the Middle Ages. Gothic completed the development of European medieval art, having arisen on the basis of the achievements of the Romanesque culture, and in the Renaissance (Renaissance) era, the art of the Middle Ages was considered “barbaric”. Art Nouveau in architecture
Modern style appeared in European style modern in architecture and American art in the late XIX – early XX century and most clearly manifested in the architecture of private houses – mansions, as well as in the construction of business, industrial and commercial buildings – banks, exchanges, stations. Appearing in a rapidly developing industrial society, the modern style, on the one hand, was characterized by rational structures: reinforced concrete, glass, and facing ceramics were widely used, on the other hand, its decorative nature was the main feature of the style. Empire style in architecture
Empire style appeared in art and architecture in the late XVIII – early XIX century, after the French Revolution and in the period of Napoleon’s empire. The very name of the style comes from the French word “empire” – empire. The main purpose of art in this era was the eulogy of the empire and the emperor, its greatness and military success, which determined the characteristic features of the style. Continue reading
