Modern classics in the interior

Theorists and practitioners of neoclassicism are considered to be English, French and German architects from the 18th and 19th centuries. In particular, Scot Robert Adam, who developed a lightweight and elegant version of early classicism and placed particular emphasis on the refinement of the interior.

As a style in the interior, modern classics took shape as opposed to the modern style, which was distinguished by excessive decorativeness and a multitude of non-functional details. The neoclassical trend combined ancient beauty and harmony with a more democratic implementation, abandoning the massiveness and monumentality.

Interior design in the style of modern classics
Elegant restraint – in a nutshell it is possible to characterize neoclassical ideology. Compromise style prefers simplicity, harmony, natural muted colors.

The main signs of the direction:

layout with spacious bright rooms;
minimalist in furniture, decor;
smooth, smooth, simple lines and silhouettes;
combination of natural and artificial materials;
calm without pronounced conservatism or eccentricity.

Modern classic style in the interior: features of the layout
In the interior design of apartments, modern classics suggest zoning with the release of one large room – the living room. This is the logical center of the whole composition, with transitions from one room to another. In this case, doorways can be decorated with arches, and for internal conditional borders to use columns or semi-columns. Light and high ceilings, the presence of large window openings will provide good insolation.

The main principle in the planning of a particular room is symmetry. It is realized due to the paired elements of the situation: bookcases, lamps, sofas, coffee tables.

Furniture in modern classic interior design
Neoclassical furniture set has recognizable features:

The verified combination of smooth bends with rigid lines;
the forms lack bulkiness and lush baroque decor;
upholstery not striking, but noble, without complicated ornaments;
Modern variations of Chesterfield sofas and English chairs with ears are appropriate.
Modern classic interiors of apartments in bright colors will become more expressive and dynamic if they are filled with contrasting furniture. It can be as a dark wood coffee table, cabinets, consoles, and textile decoration of the sofa group.

In the project of the apartment in dark and light colors, the second reception was used: the sofas of a rich coffee color accentuate the symmetrical arrangement, paired with chairs of saffron color with purple cushions.

Surface finish
The simultaneous use of natural and artificial materials distinguishes neoclassicism from classical conservatism. Facing with marble, granite, expensive wood successfully adjoins with composite panels, wood-like slabs, and plastic.

In the design of the walls, the interior design in modern classical style uses decorative plaster, wallpaper with a restrained, but attractive decor. A popular type of finish is wooden wall panels or imitation of boiserie with moldings.
Strict stucco decoration is a characteristic feature; here lush stucco with a lot of decorative elements is inappropriate. The priority is simple moldings, curtain rods and friezes with concise relief. Such design visually lifts the ceiling, and at the same time arranges the interior, brings symmetry to it.
In the decoration of the floor, you can use natural wood, parquet, floorboard, granite, marble, carpet. The coating must be neutral in color. A good effect will be given by the combination of materials: as an option – parquet and monochrome carpet with a short nap.
One of the examples of modern classics in a country interior is the design of a townhouse. In the living room, the walls are partially covered with light wallpaper in a cage, the fireplace area is highlighted with brown marble and dark sand plaster, the remaining walls are lined with white wooden panels. Spotlights are built in along the perimeter of the ceiling. The photo shows how harmoniously classic cupboard and chest of drawers can be combined with a minimalist corner sofa.

The color scheme in a modern classic interior
The basis of the palette are neutral natural shades. In their bright incarnation, they make the room more spacious, and more saturated colors make neat graphical. Inserts of gold, bronze, silver tones give aristocracy. Bright accents are allowed in the form of complex composite colors (coral, turquoise, wine), but most often in accessories: lamps, paintings, decorative pillows.

Primary colors and shades Accent colors
white saturated turquoise
beige (light gray) mint
cream coral
ivory burgundy
creamy lilac
golden coffee with milk
dark chocolate bronze

An example of a modern interior with classic elements is a bright apartment with bright accents. In the hallway, neutral gray shades are advantageously combined with lilac bench upholstery.
