What is minimalism?
The interior design in the style of minimalism provides for the principle of minimum:
– The minimum number of parts, decor, colors, objects.

This minimalist style in the interior is not associated with an ascetic lifestyle or financial need.

It represents an aesthetically appealing environment for which, first of all, space, functionality and a clear organization of space are characteristic.

The history of the birth of style
Appeared minimalism in the interior in the 20-30 years of the last century.

Its origin was preceded by the tendency of constructivism, providing for a clear and thoughtful organization of space. Constructivism, in turn, has become an alternative to the modern, for which the characteristic chic of natural materials, curved and often massive lines and ornate decor.

Another factor contributing to the emergence of minimalism in the interior of apartments is the end of the First World War in 1918. The production of furniture and building materials had just begun to rebuild their activities, while the people in a concise, light and not overburdening environment.

In the post-war period, architects (the most famous of whom was Frank Lloyd Wright) began to build housing for workers, which provided for functionality and simplicity. Their results quickly fell to the soul of society.

All this in combination influenced the appearance and long-term popularity of the new solution in the interior – minimalism.

Directional characteristic
Consider the main characteristics of the interior design minimalism:

As much as possible free space.
Such a solution is often achieved by dismantling partitions, replacing interior doors with arches, increasing window openings, creating a second light in two-story dwellings.

Symmetric, clear and proportional lines.
The furniture is modern, regular shape, roomy, folding and multifunctional. Sometimes designers prefer furniture asymmetric forms.
Well lit rooms.
Used no more than three colors.
The most commonly used colors are white, gray, black, beige, silver. One bright color can complement them: green, yellow, red, etc.

The furniture is placed in such a way as to leave as much free space as possible.
There is no fine decor.

Is minimalism popular today and who prefers it?
The minimalism style in the interiors of apartments manages to keep popularity and exist in parallel with successive fashion trends in the interiors of dwellings. This is due to the fact that there is always a category of people who do not want to pursue fashion, preferring an unobtrusive and uncluttered atmosphere.

Another factor in the popularity of the genre is the rapid rhythm of life in the conditions of a city overloaded with advertising signs, buildings of various sizes and turmoil.

Being in such conditions, I want to come home to feel and see the spaciousness, freedom, lack of small and stressful details. Unobtrusive, but comfortable environment will help to relax, have a good sleep and rest.

Classic minimalism in the interior will appeal to those who do not tolerate chaos and house. This is a good solution for people prone to perfectionism and order. In such an environment, it is easy to clean, to observe strict proportions of objects and to create interesting, but concise combinations.
